4 Tips For a Stress Free Wedding

When you close your eyes and dream up your wedding day, what do you see?

Do you see a long, flowing fairytale dress? A stunning venue? A night full of love and bliss surrounded by the people you love most? If you’re like me, you spent (probably too many) hours daydreaming about walking down that aisle to the man of your dreams as you grew up.

Now, of course, there is so much more that goes into a wedding than just the list above. So many of my AK couples and brides are planning logistics for months on end. There is the pressure of narrowing down your guest list, taste testing a variety of cake options (one of my favorite parts!), and booking your vendors and venue ahead of schedule. When the day is finally here, you should be able to unclench your jaw, loosen your shoulders, and take a deep breath.

Remember, your wedding day is supposed to be filled with happiness and excitement. You are starting a brand new chapter of your life! As you can imagine, when you’ve attended as many weddings as I have, you learn a few things! So today, I am sharing four tips to help you have the stress-free wedding day you deserve.

1. When creating your guest list, invite the people who are present and relevant in your life.

Easier said than done, I know! From what I’ve witnessed, keeping your guest list small and intimate (if possible) will alleviate a lot of stress. With big wedding parties, there are so many people to greet and entertain. If you can get around it, avoid inviting your fourth cousin who you haven’t seen in eight years. Save yourself the hassle of a forced conversation that you are not wanting to have. Having a smaller guest list means more interaction, genuine conversations, and appreciating the time you get to spend focusing on you and your partner rather than having to thank hundreds of people for coming.

2. Hire a wedding planner.

A wedding planner will help bring your dream wedding to life. Having a wedding planner can be extremely beneficial when aiming for a stress free wedding day. In the planning process, they take the stress off of you in securing vendors and designing the ceremony and reception spaces. They help keep the day flowing and organized, so you don’t have to worry about any logistics day-of! They work closely with the catering staff, videographers, and photographers and make sure everything is running smoothly. I’ve loved having the opportunity to work with wedding planners to ensure your day goes off without a hitch. You can have a family member or friend help fulfill this role, but wedding planners have loads of irreplaceable expertise. They are there to complete one job, and that is to turn your vision into a reality.

3. Get confirmations for everything.

To have a smooth day, make sure you confirm your photographer, caterer, florist, decorator, and any other important participants in your wedding. Double check dates and times! Get confirmations in writing a few weeks out so you feel at ease with all the details. This saves you the worry and wonder on your wedding day of whether or not your DJ is going to show up. Nobody wants that stress! (If you have hired a planner, they will most likely be taking care of this for you).

4. Communicate, it’s key!

Communication with your partner, your family, and all those who are working to make your day special is so important. Whether you’re in the planning process or the day has arrived – clear communication will allow for any fears to be put at ease. It’s OK to ask for help and it’s perfectly alright to assign tasks to others to help keep you calm and excited about your wedding day. Many times we think we can do it all on our own, and many times we can, but that doesn’t mean we have too. That goes for communicating any needs you may have on your wedding day to your vendors. We are there to make you feel supported and stress free! The more clear you can be with me, or any photographer, the better to ensure we capture the perfect images on your day.

As simple and obvious as these tips may seem, they are essential to having a stress free wedding day! Your photographer’s job is to capture you in your magical moment. So try your hardest to relax and soak up the feelings of pure bliss and happiness. This day belongs to you and your love!
