When people are asked about their most treasured keepsakes, many will say “photographs.” Photos capture a moment in time and tell a story for years to come. Nothing beats sitting around a kitchen table sharing photos with family and friends and having the ability to look back fondly on life’s past events. That’s why it is so important that you find the RIGHT photographer for your needs, especially when it comes to your wedding day!
In my experience as a wedding photographer, I have had several conversations with brides about how quickly their wedding day went by. I can say the same about my own day!! You plan for months, sometimes, even years for your big day. Suddenly, in the blink of an eye the caterers are wrapping up the cake and everyone is heading home. Thankfully, by doing your research, you know you’ve hired a phenomenal photographer and you’ll be able to relive this day over and over again!
Choosing the right photographer to capture your most magical moments is an important decision. It’s crucial to find a photographer who understands your vision. And, on top of that, you want to find someone you can trust and feel comfortable with. If you are currently seeking out a photographer for your wedding or an upcoming event, follow these four steps!
4 Ways to Find the Right Photographer For Your Needs:
Recommendations
Do not be afraid to ask for recommendations! As you scroll social media or browse through your friend’s wedding photos, reach out and ask questions! This is a great way to decide if you like the style the photographer provides. Plus, referrals are always a sure way to know the quality of work you will receive. I love when one of my past brides sends their friends my way! It is the ultimate compliment!
Decide what type of photography you like best
There are many different styles of wedding photography to choose from! Once you narrow down what style you like and what your vision looks like for the photographs, you can filter out any photographers that don’t match your preferred style. I always recommend looking on Instagram and using local hashtags to find different photographers near you! (Pssstt if you’re in Kentucky, I’d love to chat!)
Interview several different photographers
By interviewing a handful of photographers, you can get a better idea of how your day will go. Who will be involved in photographing your wedding? Will the photographer have an assistant? I always encourage people to ask to view their most recent work as well. These meetings are a great opportunity to ask about pricing, packages, fees and personalities! This person will be with you the majority of one of the most intimate and sacred days of your life, so you want to feel comfortable around them!
Trust your gut!
Once you have narrowed your list down, take the time to weigh out the pros and cons of each photographer. Remember, you are spending your entire wedding day with this person, so it is important the three of you connect and feel great about working together. If I could give one piece of advice, go with your gut! It will never steer you wrong!
If you’re already married, I’d love to know how you chose your photographer! Did you get a referral from someone, research local experts, or go in blindly? Shoot me a DM on Instagram and let me know! If you are not married, I am wishing you all the luck in your search for the perfect photographer on your special day! Please do not hesitate to reach out if I can help in any way!
