As the vibrant seasons of summer embrace Kentucky, they bring so many opportunities for capturing breathtaking wedding photos. This summer, I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of AK Couples that have asked me to be a part of their wedding day! It’s been a “pinch me” season of our lives, that’s for sure! I’m sharing tips to help you navigate outdoor lighting challenges, work with vibrant seasonal colors, and capture candid moments for an unforgettable experience. Whether you’re located in Kentucky, or not, these tips will be sure to make your wedding day stand out!
Master Outdoor Lighting Challenges:
Embrace golden hour! Take advantage of the warm and soft light during sunrise or sunset for magical and flattering images. By far some of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken have been during sunset. After vows have been exchanged, I challenge you and your new spouse to slip away with your photographer. Capture golden hour photos with just the two of you! There really is no better way to soak in the bliss of your new lives together!
Bonus points for avoiding harsh sunlight. For example, I recommend staying away from wedding ceremonies at or around noon, especially if your ceremony is outdoors. I also recommend utilizing shaded areas throughout the day, indoor spaces, and other backdrops that prevent harsh shadows. If you’re not handing the camera to your Aunt Sue, you shouldn’t worry too much about lighting. Your photographer will know exactly where to go to get the best light for your special day.
Work With Vibrant Seasonal Colors:
I just wrote a blog post all about what to wear to your spring engagement session. Coordinating color palettes with the season is a recommendation I don’t think I’ll ever not offer. I love when brides and respective bridal parties choose attire and decor that complements the natural hues of the season, such as warm oranges, deep reds, and earthy tones. In the summer, you can be sure to work in blooming flowers in your photos. For fall-time ceremonies, seeking out colorful foliage or rustic fall backdrops to add depth and visual interest to your images is a must!
Capture Candid Moments:
One of my favorite parts of the job is capturing the raw emotion displayed during wedding season. I’ll never grow tired of watching dads hand their daughters over, wedding guests honoring family members who have passed at the “in memory of” tables, and the groom’s eyes welling up with tears as the bride makes her way down the aisle toward him. It’s critical that your photographer (and those taking photos as a guest) remain unobtrusive. In other words, I try hard to blend into the background to ensure I’m capturing genuine emotions and candid interactions between the couple and their loved ones.
By applying these tips, you will be well-equipped to capture stunning photos and enhance the visual storytelling of your summer wedding day. Remember, each wedding is a unique love story! The goal is to preserve moments and create timeless images to be cherished for a lifetime. Do you plan to marry in 2023 or 2024? Inquire about my availability today!
