As the leaves change colors and we prepare for cooler temps, I can’t help but reminisce on Jake and Vixie’s Winter maternity session from this past March. We found a Kentucky farm to be the perfect backdrop to capture this family’s milestone. The sun was shining, the snow had melted, and the giddiness these two had to show off Vixie’s bump was contagious. Waiting for a baby can be one of the most exciting times in your life! No matter what time of year you are expecting your little bundle of joy (and regardless if it is your first, second or even fifth child!) you should have photos taken to document this life changing experience.
People often think that maternity sessions can’t be done outdoors in the winter months, but these two clearly proved that thought process wrong! Kentucky is really a beautiful place year-round, and I love capturing life’s biggest moments in my home state regardless of the season. Outdoor sessions also happen to be some of my favorite shoots. There’s just something about being surrounded by nature and breathing fresh air that loosens everyone up and allows us all to have a fun time.
Not to mention, spring is the season of new life and this particular season was one Vixie had been waiting for for as long as I’ve known her. Having grown up beside Vixie for the past 17 years only made this maternity session even more special to me. This sweet soul’s greatest dream has always been to become a mother, so you can imagine how sentimental and emotional it was to watch her showcase the fulfillment of this dream in front of my camera lens. Having these photos shot on my parent’s farm also held so much meaning seeing as Vixie and I grew up running around barefoot on this land. In a few short months, Vixie would have a healthy, barefoot baby doing the same.
I am beyond excited for Jake and Vixie to grow their family. Throughout the shoot, these two gave away little hints at what the baby’s name would be. (*hint* the flowers have something to do with it!) I cannot wait to witness them love this little one the way they love others – with the fierce and devoted love they get from their Father. Daisy is one lucky child to have these two as parents.
