This Kentucky summer engagement session was a dream come true in so many ways! When I began building my business more than six years ago, I took time to envision the kind of couples I wanted to serve. Because while I love taking pretty pictures, it is the people in the photos who really inspire me as a person and artist. The heart behind my lens has always been for the couples in front of it. I knew I wanted to work with people who are kind, deeply in love, thoughtful, and joy-filled. Melissa and Austin? They embody that vision perfectly and fit that description to a T!
Working with this sweet couple was a dream from the start! From our very first interaction, I could tell Melissa and Austin were special. In fact, I was honored to be the very first vendor they reached out to—something that completely humbled me. Back in 2019, I was just dreaming of getting wedding bookings, and now, to be one of the first calls couples make? It means the world to know that they were so excited to work with me!
Engagement Session at Locust Grove
For their summer engagement session, Melissa envisioned being surrounded by flowers—a vision I was thrilled to help bring to life! We originally planned to shoot at Locust Grove, expecting to find blooms that had recently been in full color. But blooms are as unpredictable as the Kentucky summer weather, and they had already wilted. Thankfully, I had a backup plan with more florals in mind. But, as we wandered through the grove, chasing the light, we stumbled on the most magical little pocket of hydrangeas. It couldn’t have been more perfect!
The setting felt as meant-to-be as Melissa and Austin’s love story. They were set up by a mutual friend (who you might recognize from this stunning session). From the moment they met, something just clicked. Their first dates lasted for hours, and they shut down several spots as they talked late into the night. It didn’t take long before they started dreaming of the future and what building a life together could look like. Melissa says she knew it was forever when she had to leave town for a trip and needed someone to take care of her beloved cat. Austin stepped up without hesitation and that sealed the deal! This spring, when Austin got down on one knee, it was an easy and resounding “YES” from her.
During our initial consult, they shared that meeting someone with such a similar heart and shared hopes for the future felt like a dream come true. And now, their wedding day is on the horizon! We’re counting down the days until we get to celebrate their love again this fall at The Apiary in Lexington with the incredible Shelly Fortune Events team. Melissa and Austin, you are two wonderful humans who are going to make an amazing team in marriage. I’m so honored to be part of this season and can’t wait to keep celebrating you!
